Audio: An audio monitor allows you to hear your baby.

Video: A video monitor allows you to see and hear your baby through a visual parent unit screen.

Smart: A smart monitor connects through wifi, via an app on your smartphone or tablet, which means you can check in on your baby even when you’re not at home.

Features to look out for:

Signal range:

The signal range is distance the monitor will keep it’s signal in an unobstructed space. If you've got a big house it is recommended to find a monitor with a long-range. For a flat or small house, shorter ranges should be suitable.

Room temperature:

temperature indicators allow you to monitor your baby's room- temperature, some monitors can give you alerts if it gets too hot or cold for baby.

Night vision:

Infrared night vision can be built into monitors allowing you to easily see your baby if they're in a dark room.

Moveable camera:

Pan, Tilt and zoom features allow you to get the angle of your monitor just right and keep your baby in sight when they are moving around the cot during their sleep. We recommend taking a look at Leapfrog LF1911.

Lullabies:

Giving you the ability to play songs right from the monitor to soothe your restless baby.

Battery powered:

Most monitors are battery operated allowing you to carry the parent unit so you can easily move around the house with it and can carry on during a power cut. However do check the length of life on the battery when fully charged.

Screen size:

Video monitor displays come in different sizes and resolution. It all depends on how much you want to see when you’re monitoring baby. The biggest screen size we have in our range is a 7” - We recommend Vtech RM7767HD (31300120)

Smart alerts:

Using motion sensors some monitors will alert you not only when your baby cries but when your baby moves. We recommend viewing Owlet’s range

Sound-activated lights:

These lights alert you when a sound is detected even when your monitor is on mute, the flashing lights catch your attention.

App capabilities:

Depending on the brand certain apps can measures sleep trends & routine; View total hours slept, number of wakings, and overall sleep quality. We recommend viewing Owlet’s range - The Owlet Dream App delivers advanced sleep insights, combining Sleep Quality Indicators and readings on your baby’s sleep environment helps you ensure your child sleeps better.

Multiple cameras:

these parenting units allow you to buy extra cameras separately whilst still using one parenting unit, ideal if you have more than one child.

Health Tracking:

Wearable elements (such as wraps or socks) allow you to monitor more than just your baby’s crying or movements e.g. breathing or oxygen levels. We recommend Owlet Smart Sock V3 Monitor. *
